Sarah Usdin is President and Founder of New Schools for New Orleans (NSNO). NSNO was created in March 2006 to provide public schools, with an emphasis on charter schools, with the support they need in order to succeed in the new world of New Orleans public education. NSNO hopes to help build a system of schools - not a school system - by encouraging schools to determine their individual and collective needs and by supporting them in their growth toward operational excellence and academic rigor. The mission of New Schools for New Orleans is to accelerate the transformation of New Orleans public schools by cultivating the best practices of high performing schools, promoting academic and operational excellence, and developing sustainable governance.
Since March 2006, NSNO has supported charter schools by recruiting highly qualified teachers, conducting board and business training, clarifying governmental policies, and responding to a wide range of requests for technical assistance. Over the next year, NSNO will transition from providing charter schools with emergency start-up assistance to providing sustainable and high-impact support in the areas of human capital, education quality, and school investment resources.
