Nick Hillman is a graduate student at Indiana University, where he is working on his PhD in Higher Education Policy Studies. He is also a Senior Fellow with the Roosevelt Institution, a national network of student think tanks committed to getting students ideas heard in the public policy process. Nick's primary research interests focus on higher education policy reform, particularly on issues that deal with improving college access and affordability for low-income students. In collaboration with the Roosevelt Institution, he is currently working on a policy proposal that would set up federally-funded college savings accounts for K-12 students who receive free and reduced lunch.
Nick has worked as a researcher for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC, and has interned with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. He has completed his master's and bachelor's degrees in public policy analysis from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where he was a McNair Scholar. After graduate school, Nick would like to work with a non-profit agency that is committed to reforming higher education in ways that equalize opportunities for low-income students. Outside of school, Nick serves on the board of directors for a local soup kitchen and is committed to local hunger and homelessness issues. He and his wife, Ashley, enjoy biking, running, and travelling around the Midwest.
